Abbott Lawrence (1828-1893) - was a graduate of Harvard Law, but never actually practiced law. He is notable for his leadership of Pacific Mills and the Essex Company in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The Lawrence mills began in Lawrence, Massachusetts, but was headquartered in Boston. They had offices in Baltimore, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, St Louis, and Manchester, England. The combined companies also had mills in New Hampshire and South Carolina. They manufacturing both cotton and woolen fabric, at one time the company had the capacity to produce more than 1.4 million yards (or about 800 miles) of finished cloth every day. - AsNotedIn
