Chicago Defender
American
Influential Black Weekly Newspaper
The first run of The Chicago Weekly was 300 copies, by its height; circulation was estimated to be 500000. Distributors would not carry the paper in the South, so it was smuggled in by Black entertainers and Pullman porters. The Chicago Weekly was an early fighter for civil rights and the first Black owned paper to have a full page of comics. - AsNotedIn
