Benjamin Deyerle (1806-1883) was a farmer in Big Lick, VA, currently know as Greater Deyerle neighborhood in Roanoke. He owned large tracks of land where he raised corn, tobacco, wheat and cattle. Mr Deyerle, who was said to be literate, well-mannered, honest and punctual, also operated a mill, a general store and a large whiskey distillery. Benjamin Deyerle is most notable for his career as a brick-maker, builder and architect (1845 until 1866). His brick, Greek Revival, antebellum mansions are still prominent landmarks in the Roanoke Valley. - AsNotedIn
