Carnegie Libraries in Iowa

Andrew Carnegie funded 101 libraries between 1889 and 1919 in Iowa. Twenty-two public libraries, which make up nearly one fourth of the state's Carnegie buildings, were constructed with Carnegie grants in 1903, the year which marks the highest point in Carnegie giving, both nationally and in the state. These structures stand as significant reminders of Carnegie's donations and the great impact on the development of libraries in the nation and Iowa
