1816/00/00 John M Forbes (diplomat) Owner John M Forbes buys a hill in Milton, Massachusetts.
1833/00/00 Cap Robert Bennet Forbes Design Consultant Captain Forbes pays architect $52.50 for plans for a new residence to replace an existing house for his mother. Forbes also contributes to the design and construction illustrated by the nautical interest of its builder.
1833/00/00 Isaiah Rogers Architect Forbes House is built of 18" solid brick walls, sheathed by shiplap. Timbers were cut in Maine, carried by schooner to the Milton River and hauled to the site by ox team. Port holes (lost) fringed with Ionic wreathes provide light to a half upper story.
1834/00/00 Margaret Perkins Forbes Home Margaret Forbes settles into her new residence on the summit of Milton Hill provided by her kind children. A circular staircase leads to the top floor octagonal cupola providing views of ships entering and leaving Boston Harbor.
1835/00/00 Four sisters, Emma, Margaret, Mary and Cornelia, live with their mother, Margaret Forbes. Except Mary, none will marry and all will live at the house for their lifetimes, staying here in the Spring and Fall, Winter in Boston and Summer in Maine.
1856/02/12 Margaret Perkins Forbes Died Margaret Perkins Forbes dies in Milton, Massachusetts. Two of her unmarried daughters will continue to live on Milton Hill until 1865.
1871/00/00 James Murray Forbes Home Mrs Bowditch buys the Forbes house and presents it to James and Alice Forbes as a wedding present.
1871/06/00 Alice Bowditch Forbes Bride James Murray Forbes, having served his time with Russell and Company in China, returns to marry Alice Bowditch, the daughter of Nathaniel Ingersoll Bowditch and Elizabeth Brown Bowditch.

1883/00/00 Peabody and Stearns Architect The Forbes house is remodeled under the direction of the Captain's son, James Murray Forbes, 1882-1883. The roof is raised 4 ft, the port holes are replaced by sash windows and a rear ell and large screened-in porch are added.
1937/04/26 James Murray Forbes Died James Murray Forbes dies at age 91 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts. His daughter, Mary Bowditch Forbes, inherits the house.
