1831/00/00 Lt-Gov John Nesmith Developer John and Thomas Nesmith buy the estate of Judge Edward Livermore in Tewksbury and hired Alexander Wadsworth to layout a residential district on the 150 acre estate. Nesmith Street is to be a 60 foot wide boulevard with ten foot wide sidewalks.
1831/00/00 Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow Jr Architect Alexander Wadsworth designs the street layout, house lots and a park, Washington Square. The landscape is to include a double row of trees surrounding the park and residents are required to plant shade trees, every 20 foot along the streets.
1832/00/00 The Zina Stone House at 105 Chestnut Street and the Charles Chase House at 19 Nesmith Street are built in the early 1840s. The Greek Revival home at 9 Willow Street will be erected in the mid 1840s.
1852/00/00 Charles P Talbot Home Now altered, 142 Chestnut Street is built for Charles P Talbot. Born in Ireland in 1807, C P Talbot founded the Talbot Woolen Mills in North Billerica with his bother Thomas.
1860/00/00 The John Holt House is built at 28 Nesmith Street in the late 1850s. The Italianate residence's details include ornamental brackets, flush board siding scored to simulate stone, molded double doors, triple arched windows and a central gable pavilion.
1860/00/00 The Nesmiths sell Washington Square Park to the City. Lowell installs the granite curbing still visible today. The park will be renamed "Kittredge Park", in honor of Captain Paul Kittredge of Lowell who will die in France during World War I.
