From the works thus selected, and on exhibition, the best works of each country of the Old World have been taken, and placed in the main gallery of Memorial Hall, opposite to and in close comparison with the best works of the most eminent artists of the United States, thus forming a most interesting exhibition.Fair Grounds Official Guidebook

Memorial Hall in Philedelphia's East Fairmont park was originally built to be the art exhibition gallery of 1876 Centennial Exposition. After the exhibition, it became the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Arts, and displayed art works from the Centennial. In the 1920's the art was transferred to the Pennsylvania Museum of Art (now the Philadelphia Museum of Art) or sold. In October 2008, Memorial Hall was restored and opened as the new home of the Please Touch Museum. - AsNotedIn
