1762/00/00 Thomas Nevell Architect, Carpenter Mount Pleasant is built in the countryside near the city for John Macpherson and his wife Margaret. Macpherson was a privateer, or a pirate, who had had "an arm twice shot off" according to John Adams.
1775/00/00 John Adams Guest John Adams visits Clunie calling it "the most elegant seat in Pennsylvania." Original paneling with ornamental carving still show the elegance of the lifestyle of colonial elites.
1779/03/22 Benedict Arnold Owner Benedict Arnold buys Clunie for his wife Peggy Shippen. Benedict specifically made the property over to her, although, due to the high price of the estate and Benedicts deteriorating funds, he had to sell it before the couple move in.
1792/00/00 Lt Col Jonathan Williams Home Jonathan Williams, a grandnephew of Benjamin Franklin, buys Mount Pleasant mansion. He lived there intermittently until his death in 1815. His children sold the estate to Fairmount Park.
