1835/00/00 Founded in 1835, the Ladd and Company sugar plantation is the first successful large-scale sugar manufacturing enterprise in the Hawaiian Islands
1841/00/00 Koloa native laborers strike for 2 weeks. Paid 12.5 cents a day, they demand 25 cents a day. The management refuses, saying they are also getting housing, fish, land for taro patches and exemption from taxes to the ali'i (native chief).
