1881/07/04 Booker T Washington Principal Tuskegee Institute is established as Tuskegee Normal School for Colored Teachers by former slave Lewis Adams and former slave owner George W Campbell.
1905/09/00 Walter T Bailey Architect Walter Bailey becomes the head of the Mechanical Industries Department as well as the supervisor of the architectural and planning aspects of the Tuskegee Institute.
1912/00/00 Claude McKay Education Claude McKay enrolls at Tuskegee Institute. Not enjoying the "semi-military, machine-like existence there", he soon transfers to Kansas State University.
1915/00/00 Nella Larsen Work Upon graduating in 1915, Larsen travels south to work at the Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama, where she soon becomes head nurse at its hospital and training school.
1915/00/00 Dr Floyd B Brown Education Floyd B Brown sells books to finance his education at the Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama.
1916/00/00 Nella Larsen Work Disillusioned with Booker T Washington's model of education and unhappy with poor working conditions for nurses at Tuskegee, Larsen returns to New York, where she works for two years as a nurse at Lincoln Hospital.
