Rosalie
- Address: 100 Orleans St
The architecture of Rosalie influenced the design and construction of houses throughout the lower Mississippi Valley and to some degree throughout the southern part of the United States. Rosalie was at the center of Civil War activity in Natchez. Beginning in July, 1863 it served as Federal headquarters. At that same tine the troop commanders occupied the second floor for living quarters. Maj Gen Ulysses S Grant was housed at Rosalie during his August, 1863 visit to Natchez.
The design of Rosalie was unique at the time of construction in 1823. The house is almost cubical. It has a raised portico with three bays; and a two-story colonnade in the rear. The raised portico with three bays, a pediment, and two-story columns, also a series of two-story columns on the rear without a pediment had not been built in the lower Mississippi Valley prior to Rosalie. - NRHP, 16th August 1977
