John Maclean House was originally built in 1756 to serve as the official residence for President of the College of New Jersey. The mansion was the home to ten college presidents: Aaron Burr, Jonathan Edwards, Samuel Davies, Samuel Finley, John Witherspoon, Samuel S Smith, Ashbel Green, James Carnahan, John Maclean Jr and James McCosh. The President's House then became home for the first seven deans of the faculty: James Ormsbee Murray, Winans, Fine, Magie, Eisenhart, Root and Brown. In 1968, Alumni Council to possession of the Dean's House and was renamed in honor of John Maclean Jr, founder of the Alumni Association and college president. - AsNotedIn
