1855/10/00 Jervis Langdon Member of the first Board of Trustees Elmira College is founded in 1855, the college is the oldest college still in existence which granted male-equivalent degrees to women. Mark Twain's father-in-law, Jervis Langdon, was a member of the first Board of Trustees.
1864/00/00 Olivia Langdon Clemens Education Olivia Langdon graduates from Elmira College.
1906/00/00 Andrew Carnegie Benefactor Dr MacKenzie secures $30,000 from Andrew Carnegie as long as the college would become independent and nonsectarian. Elmira changed its charter and built Carnegie Hall in 1911.
1952/00/00 Dr Ida Langdon, Mark Twain's niece, donates Twain's study to the Elmira College.
