  • Also Known As: George Walton House also Harper House also Walton-Harper House

  • Travel Genus: Sight
  • Sight Category: Building

Property traditionally associated with George Walton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, this was his residence from 1795-1804. He also served as Georgia's Governor, Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court and US Senator. - NPS

Up until the 1970s, College Hill house on Wrightsboro Rd was widely thought to be George Walton's summer home. A March 1975 report to Historic Preservation Section of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources concluded that George Walton "probably did not build or live in the Harper house". Although, the report was "not conclusive", it did state that the "evidence against Walton's connection with the house seems almost overwhelming". Mr Walton did own a mansion called College Hill but, this was probably not it. - AsNotedIn
