Fillmore-Pine Building
- Address: 1940 - 1946 Fillmore St
- Vicinity: Pine St, Japantown
- Neighborhood of Western Addition in San Francisco
The Fillmore-Pine building at 1940-46 Fillmore Street reflects the thriving economy of the neighborhood, as well as its strong German heritage. An early example of a mixed-use building containing residential units and neighborhood-serving retail space, the Fillmore-Pine building was designed by German architect Wildrich Winterhalter and constructed at the southwest corner of Pine and Fillmore streets in 1882. The building's developer, German immigrant Jonas Schoenfeld, imported and sold tobacco and cigars. Schoenfeld rented one storefront to Julius Heyman for a shoe store and Nathan M Jacobs rented the other for his fancy goods shop while living in quarters upstairs. - San Francisco Japantown Historic Context Statement, May 2009
