In the summer of 1984, the bow section of a blue water sailing vessel, most likely the brig Sterling, was discover stuck in the muddy river bottom. The Sterling was built by by Samuel A Fraser in Duxbury, Massachusetts in 1833. After a career of sailing the American east coast, between Boston and Philadelphia, she sank at anchor in the fall of 1855. The burnt hull of a later vessel sits on top. - AsNotedIn
