1872/04/16 Northern Pacific Railway Architect Camp Greeley is established in the Dakota Territory to provide protection for work gangs building the Northern Pacific Railroad. The post was not actually occupied until troops arrived on August 8. A 1909 Northern Pacific Locomotive remains.
1873/00/00 Camp Greeley is renamed Camp Hancock.
1874/00/00 A Signal Corps "reporting station" is established at Camp Greeley. The primary mission of the Signal Corps is to transmit military messages. They also maintain records of the nation's weather patterns.
1877/00/00 17th Infantry Regiment, US Army Architect Companies D and H of the 17th Infantry garrisoned the post at varying times until 1877, after which Camp Hancock served as a supply depot for nearby Fort Abraham Lincoln and other posts further west.
1883/00/00 By 1883 Camp Greeley serves as a storage station for the US Army quartermaster's supplies, which would be shipped, by rail, wagon, or steamboat, to posts along the river and farther west.
1894/04/16 United States Department of Agriculture Occupant The War Department transfers Camp Hancock to the Department of Agriculture who establish the Bismarck Weather Station. This arrangement continued until January, 1940, when the Bureau moved to the Bismarck Municipal Airport south of the city.
1949/00/00 Soil Conservation Service Occupant The US Soils Conservation Service used Camp Hancock from 1940 until 1949. In May of 1951 a portion of the property was deeded to the State of North Dakota with the State Historical Society as trustee.
