Schloss Bensberg was originally built as a hunting lodge and summer residence for Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, the wife of Elector Johann Wilhelm II von Berg (1658-1716). Schloss Bensberg was designed by Italian architect, Matteo Count d'Alberti. The interiors were decorated by two Italian artists, Pellegrini and Zanetti, and Jan Weenix (Dutch). Johann Wilhelm II died in 1716 and Anna Maria Luisa returned to Florence in October 1717. - AsNotedIn
