Checkpoint C
During the Cold War, Checkpoint Charlie was the only crossing point for foreigners and members of the Allied forces to pass through the Berlin Wall between East Berlin and West Berlin. The East German compound included barriers to keep people from escaping the Eastern Block, a shed where they could search cars and people and a watchtower. The allied or western side, had a small wooden guard shelter that was later replaced by a larger metal one. Currently the site has a replica of the first Allied guard shack but the second structure is on display at the Allied Museum in Berlin's Dahlem neighborhood. - AsNotedIn
