1787/00/00 Congress Hall is built as the Philadelphia County Courthouse.
1790/00/00 City Philadelphia expanses the County Courthouse into what will become Congress Hall.
1790/12/06 US Congress moves to Philadelphia. First floor of Congress Hall is used by the House of Representatives and the second floor by the US Senate. Congress Hall served as the capitol building until 14 May 1800, when the capital moved to Washington, DC.
1793/03/04 George Washington US President George Washington is sworn in for a second term as President of the United States in the Senate Chamber of Congress Hall.
1795/00/00 Congress Hall is expanded by 26 additional feet to allow for a growing Congress. With the additions the Senate Chamber's location was pushed pack and more offices were added to the second floor.
1795/12/00 United States Congress US Senate permanently opens its doors to the public. Previously, the Senate met behind closed doors but relented after public and media outcries about meeting in secret.
1797/03/04 John Adams US President John Adams is inaugurated as the second president of the United States.
1799/00/00 John Randolph of Roanoke Work John Randolph is elected to the US House of Representatives with 40.54 of the vote, defeating Federalists Powhatan Bolling and Clement Carington. Randolph is reelected in 1801, 1823, 1825, 1827 and 1833.
1896/00/00 George C Mason Jr Architect George Champlin Mason Jr restores the Senate chamber at Congress Hall, 1895-96.
1976/00/00 Portraits of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette hang in the Committee Rooms. Both are replicas given by the French government in 1976. The originals were gifts to Congress who took them to Washington, DC, the portraits disappeared during the War of 1812.
