An English muffin is a squat, dense bread roll with small airy pockets typically made from wheat flour, shortening, milk, sugar and yeast. Similar to an English Crumpet, English Muffins are typically toasted, spread with butter and eaten for breakfast. The flat roll is the bottom layer of the classic Eggs Benedict recipe: a split opened English muffin, layered with ham, bacon or Canadian bacon; poached eggs, and topped with hollandaise sauce. - AsNotedIn
