Oliver H Middleton (1798-1892) was the son of Governor Henry Middleton of Middleton Place, a Midshipman in the United States Navy, an Edisto Island Planter and the brother-in-law of the Confederate States of America's Charleston Light Dragoons' commander, Colonel Benjamin Rutledge. Middleton's son, Pvt Oliver Hering Middleton Jr, was killed 30 May 1864 at Matadequin Creek, VA. - AsNotedIn
