John Rogers, a Delegate from Maryland; born in Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Md., in 1723; received a liberal schooling; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice; member of the committee of safety in 1774 and 1775; member of the Maryland provincial conventions in 1774, 1775, and 1776; one of the trustees of the Lower Marlboro Academy in 1775; second major of battalion, Prince Georges County; Member of the Continental Congress in 1775 and 1776; judge of the court of admiralty in 1776; member of the executive council on the organization of the state government in February 1777; chancellor of Maryland from March 10, 1778, until his death in Upper Marlboro, Prince Georges County, Md., September 23, 1789. - US Congress
