1893/00/00 The original Hotel Grunewald, built by German immigrant Louis Grunewald, opens on Baronne Street.
1908/01/01 Toledano and Wogan Architect Grunewald opens his 'Annex' tower on University Place at Midnight, January 1, 1908. The $2,500,000, 14 story tall tower was designed by Toledano and Wogan.
1923/10/31 The Hotel Grunewald is renamed The Roosevelt in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt and his support for the building of the Panama Canal.
1925/10/01 The new 16-story Baronne Street tower opens, replacing the original building. By the end of 1925, the Romanesque Room became the Venetian Room, a premiere jazz venue. The hotel begnis a tradition of decorating its block-long lobby for Christmas.
1932/00/00 Huey P Long Guest During the 1930s, US Senator Huey P Long uses a 12th-floor suite at The Roosevelt as his Louisiana headquarters and New Orleans residence. He is known to enjoy a Ramos Gin Fizz in the Main Bar as he speaks to his constituents. Ramos Gin Fizz
1933/00/00 Niagara Falls businessman Frank A Dudley and the United Hotels Company acquire The Roosevelt.
1935/12/31 Glenn Miller Performer The Blue Room opens as a music venue, drawing such acts as Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Sammy Kaye and Guy Lombardo.
1938/08/01 The Main Bar (now named the Sazerac Bar) opens at The Roosevelt. Its mahogany bar, walnut-paneled walls and Paul Ninas murals are still a highlight of the hotel. Sazerac (cocktail)
1938/09/01 Fountain Lounge at The Roosevelt New Orleans opens under the direction of owner Seymour Weiss.
1949/00/00 Seymour Weiss buys the rights to use the name "Sazerac Bar" from the Sazerac Company. The bar had previously been on Exchange Place before Prohibition and at 300 Carondelet Street afterward.
1957/00/00 Elvis Presley Guest During the filming of King Creole, Elvis Presley and his entourage occupy the entire top floor of the Roosevelt. To escape the fans below, Elvis would climb through the window of an adjoining building, cross the roof and enter the hotel via a fire escape.
1959/00/00 The Sazerac Bar on Baronne Street is closed and the name is transfer to the Main Bar at the Roosevelt. Sazerac Rye
1964/00/00 Arthur Hailey lives at the Roosevelt Hotel for two months. He went on to use it as the basis for his best selling novel "Hotel".
2009/10/23 A restored Roosevelt Hotel celebrates a grand-opening gala weekend featuring New Orleans entertainers and introducing Chef John Besh's restaurant Domenica and the Guerlain Spa.
