I don't know how my parents came to make the decision to send me to Horace Mann, I don't remember being consulted about it at all. I remember going up there for a test and being told by my parents that it was a better school and that's it, that's where you're going. Ira Levin

You had to wear a jacket and a tie and... not only a jacket and a tie but the right kind of jacket and tie. Certain teachers were very fussy. You couldn't wear a two-tone jacket. But it was very nice. It was sort of a semi-collegiate atmosphere and there was a lot of hard work, but also a certain degree of independence and it was just presumed that you were going to do the work if left on your own.
