1833/00/00 John McConnell, lawyer Home A house was built, 1833-34, for John McConnell. A brick law office is built near the house for MeConnell, but, as he will die only a few weeks after moving in, the building will never be used for that purpose.
1834/07/05 John McConnell, lawyer Died John M McConnell dies at the age of 43. He wished to be buried on a hill so that he could view his property. He, his wife and several other graves are on a hill about 0.75 mile SSW from the McConnell House located in Wurtland, KY.
1857/00/00 George Hurts buys the place from the MeConnell heirs. Active in mining and manufacturing, he deals in furnaces. Wurts establishes a private school in the unused law office the first schoolhouse in the county.
1874/00/00 James D Biggs of Louisville, a farmer and timber dealer who had married George Wurts' daughter Alice, buys the property from Wurts' widow Mary Ann. The Biggs' will occupied the house until 1907, and made it a center for the social life of the community.
