1807/00/00 The Connecticut Turnpike Co builds a bridge (lost, site near Post Rd bridge) linking the village of Saugatuck to the east bank of the Saugatuck River. Toll charges range from 25 cents for 2-horse stages and pleasure carriages, to 2 cents for each animal.
1820/00/00 The Davis Taylor House is built at 35 Post Road c 1820. Later it will be the residence of Hezekiah Nichols, the manager of the Westport Hotel, located on the east bank of the river on the Post Road (lost).
1820/00/00 18 Post Road West is built as early as 1820.
1830/00/00 14 Post Road West is erected c 1830, probably for Daniel Platt. Platt owns a store and wharf on the west bank and operates a carriage shop on Riverside Avenue.
1837/00/00 Thomas Whitlock sells 18 Post Road West to Davis Taylor, William Burwell and Samuel Gorham III. As early as 1830, Davis Taylor was the proprietor of a hat shop on the west bank and contemporary advertisements suggest that he also ran a general store.
1843/00/00 The Daniel Platt House is built at 25 Post Road.
1853/00/00 Horace Staples Work Staples renames the Saugatuck Bank to First National Bank and moves it to 8 Post Road. The frame Federal-style structure (lost) once stood adjacent to the present National Hall.
1875/00/00 William Edgar Mash buys the Davis Taylor House. Nash owned a drug store for many years and was active in the local Library Association, the Willowbrook Cemetery Association, the State Street Railroad Co and the Westport Electric Light and Water Co.
1880/00/00 8 Post Road, an Italianate commercial building with a brick facade, is probably built c 1880 for John Burke, who owned the property from 1875 to 1896.
1896/00/00 John S Jones, the editor of the Westporter-Herald, buys 8 Post Road and published the paper here for a short time.
