1843/12/02 Methodist Church Vocation The Memphis Conference Female Institute (lost) is chartered by the General Assembly of Tennessee. The first institution of higher learning in Madison County was located on an old horse racetrack, now the site of Fire Station No 1 on E Chester St.
1885/00/00 Florence Martin Morris Education Florence Martin attends Memphis Conference Female Institute in Jackson and the Tennessee Female College in Franklin, Tennessee.
1921/11/00 Memphis Conference Female Institute changes its name to Lambuth College and admits its first male students. The school is named in honor of the Reverend Walter R Lambuth, MD, a pioneer Methodist missionary bishop.
1921/11/00 Methodist Church Vocation The Memphis Annual Conference votes to establish a coeducational institution.
1924/00/00 The first building is erected on the new Lambuth College campus to house classrooms, laboratories, library, kitchen and dining facilities. Students and faculty live on the upper two floors.
1926/00/00 Mamie Lucile Womack Work Mamie L Womack becomes the first librarian at Lambuth University. She also works as an Assistant Professor of Social Science and an Instructor Physical Education for Woman.
2011/06/00 Lambuth University closes in Jackson, Tennessee.
