1810/00/00 Eleuthere Irenee du Pont Owner E I du Pont buys four tracts of land forming the nucleus of what later becomes Winterthur.
1834/10/31 Eleuthere Irenee du Pont Died E I du Pont dies in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and leaves the property to his children. He was buried in the Du Pont de Nemours Cemetery on the family property at 215 Bucks Road East, Wilmington, Delaware.
1839/00/00 Jacques Antoine Bidermann, and his wife, Evelina, a daughter of E I du Pont, buy the property from the other siblings and begin construction on a 12-room house. They name it Winterthur after Bidermann's ancestral home in Switzerland.
1867/00/00 Henry du Pont Owner Gen Henry du Pont (brother of Evelina) buys Winterthur from his nephew James Irenee Bidermann (son of Jacques and Evelina) for his own son Col Henry Algernon du Pont.
1876/00/00 Henry A du Pont Home Col Henry Algernon and Pauline Foster du Pont, who married in 1874, settle at Winterthur.
1877/08/03 Louise du Pont Crowninshield Born Louise Evelina du Pont, the daughter of Henry A du Pont and Pauline Foster du Pont, is born at the family estate, Winterthur. Raised at Winterthur, Louise was educated at home.
1880/05/27 Henry Francis du Pont Born Henry Francis du Pont, the only son of Henry Algernon and Pauline du Pont, is born at Winterthur.
1902/00/00 Henry A du Pont Home Henry Algernon du Pont adds a new facade and library wing to the existing building at Winterthur. His wife, Pauline Foster du Pont, passes away.
1926/12/31 Henry A du Pont Died Henry A Du Pont dies a Winterthur, New Castle County, Delaware. He is buried at the Du Pont de Nemours Cemetery Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware.
1927/00/00 Henry Francis du Pont Home H F du Pont inherits Winterthur after the death of his father, Henry Algernon, in late 1926.
1928/00/00 A new wing is constructed, dramatically expanding the size of the existing building, 1928-1932.
1930/00/00 Henry Francis du Pont Home H F du Pont establishes the Winterthur Corporation as a nonprofit, educational organization, with the intent of opening his home as a museum.
