1838/04/00 Dr Thomas Kenney Architect During the spring of 1838 Dr Kenney, Joseph Barnhart and others build Kenney Fort near the banks of Brushy Creek, between Lake Creek and Dyer Branch at the junction of the military road from Austin and the Double File Trail.
1841/06/19 Mirabeau Buonaparte Lamar Leader President Lamar leads the Santa Fe Expedition expedition from Kenney's Fort. The group includes over 300 men and women, including merchants and six companies of soldiers providing a military escort.
1842/12/30 Texas Ranger Division Law Enforcement Texas Rangers and GLO officials, 38 men total, with their wagons loaded government archives, camp for the night at Kenney's Fort. Texas Archives War
1842/12/31 Texas Ranger Division Law Enforcement To avoid bloodshed, Texas Rangers and GLO officials surrender the archives at Kenney's Fort to the Vigilance Committee, who carry the records back to Austin and store the records under floorboards in Angelina Eberly's boarding house for two years. 1844/04/10 Capt Nelson Merrell Home Capt Nelson Merrell's search party finds Dr Kenneys body. Nelson and his wife Rachel take in the youngest Kenney daughter and assume control of the Kenney Fort until oldest daughter Mary Jane marries and returns in 1848.
