New Sweden Chapel is a mid-nineteenth century Lutheran church and pioneer cemetery located 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Lockridge, Iowa, in the United States. The New Sweden Church is the oldest parent church of the Swedish Augustana Synod. New Sweden is the first permanent settlement of Swedes in the United States of America. Another wood frame church with a cemetery, the New Sweden Methodist located 0.3 miles (0.5 km) west of the Lutheran Church on 195th Street, burned down after a lighting strike in 2010, and was replaced by a new building. - AsNotedIn

1845/00/00 Carl Cassel Settler The New Sweden settlement in Iowa is organized, four years after the Pine Lake Colony of G Unonius in Wisconsin, under the leadership of Peter Cassel, a millwright in his native parish of Kisa, Ostergotland, Sweden.
1860/00/00 In a settlement of about 700 people, the New Sweden Lutheran congregation builds a new church building under the direction of local builder Henri Jangle to replace their log church erected in 1851.
