The Field Museum, originally the Columbian Museum of Chicago, was created to house the exhibits from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. Marshall Field, helped by Edward Ayer, became a major benefactor to fund the new museum. The first home of the Columbian Museum of Chicago was in the World's Columbian Exposition's Palace of Fine Arts, which is now the Museum of Science and Industry. - AsNotedIn
