Horticulture Building

  • Address: Co Hwy 74
  • Lost Category: Lost Building

The Horticulture Building was one of the first structures built at the Dakota County Fair Grounds in Farmington, Minnesota when the Dakota County Agricultural Association purchased land for a permanent home. The Horticulture Building had an octagonal center section, topped by a dome painted silver and two 40 foot long wings. In 1984, the dome started leaning noticeable to the northeast. After the Dakota County Agricultural Society undertook a number of studies, they decided the exhibit hall was too expensive to restore and demolished it in the early summer of 1988. The dome from the central pavilion was savaged and re-purposed as a Gazebo at the 3rd St entrance, near the corner of 220th St W. - AsNotedIn
