Forty settlers had crowded into the one-acre stockade in August 1813 because of the threat of hostilities with the Creek Indians. The Creeks attacked this fort on Sept 2, 1813 but were unable to take it. Ninety feet distant from the stockade ground, in a northwest direction, are some graves. - NPS
