Charles Clinton Stone Row House
- Address: 151 Central
The Charles Clinton House is significant as a unique local example of row house construction and for its role in the evolution of building typology in Tonopah. The house plan conforms to the configuration of the long narrow lot upon which it was built. It takes a "multiple-pile" format with a series of adjacent rooms which run the length of the building accessible by a long narrow corridor to one side.^ This house plan, an adaptation of the urban row house designs of San Francisco and elsewhere, is executed here in random ashlar stone construction and a modest hipped roof. Originally built as a boarding house by Charles Clinton in 1905 the structure was easily adapted for use as a private hospital for a period of time during the early twentieth century. The house is an important contribution to the architectural heritage in Tonopah for its method of construction and as a locally rare building type, and worthy of preservation. - US NRHP
