1930/11/27 Charles A Lindbergh Inventor As Charles Lindbergh views the pulsations of the heart of a living animal under anesthesia at the research laboratories of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research, he gets an inspiration for the design of an artificial heart and lung. 1930/11/28 Charles A Lindbergh Inventor Alexis Carrel shows Lindbergh two unsuccessful attempts at building an artificial heart that will perfuse living organisms isolated from the body. Carrel says he can create the perfusion fluid but he needs a device that will avoid bacteria. Invention of the Perfusion Pump
1930/12/00 Lindbergh returns two weeks later with a design and prototype that he had commissioned from a Princeton University glassblower. Carrel is impressed and offers Lindbergh space in his lab where he can work to improve the device.
