1887/05/00 Charles Pratt Founder The New York State Legislature grants Charles Pratt a charter to open a college to all people, regardless of class, color or gender.
1887/10/17 Pratt Institute opens with 12 students in the Main Hall. Tuition is $4 per class per term (c $108.9 in 2017). Classes include architectural engineering, mechanics, dressmaking and furniture making.
