This replica of a traditional Hawaiian wa'a kaulua (double-hulled voyaging canoe) was launched March 8, 1975. By 2000, the Hokule'a had sailed on six major voyages across Polynesia, from Hawaii to New Zealand to Rapa Nui (Easter Island).
