Prehistoric Rock Art Sites in the Coa Valley are a group of Paleolithic art sites carved over several 1000 years along the Coa River in eastern Portugal. Carvings of about 5000 animal figures are part of the most remarkable open-air ensemble of Paleolithic art on the Iberian Peninsula. The sites were added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list for its provide the best illustration of the iconographic themes and organization of Paleolithic rock art, using the same modes of expression in caves and in the open air, thus contributing to a greater understanding of this artistic phenomenon.
