1744/00/00 Simon Duff Architect Work begins on an official residence for Gov Thomas Bladen. With legislative funding of 4,000 pounds ($662,000 today), the 14,000 square foot brick house will include Portland stone entrance steps imported from England and a grand entertainment room.
1750/00/00 Construction stops on the Governor's Residence due to lack of additional funding. The structure will become known as "Bladen's Folly".
1776/00/00 Thomas Jefferson Life Thomas Jefferson notes that in Annapolis "they have no public building worth mentioning except a Governor's House, the hull of which after being nearly finished, they have suffered to go to ruin."

1789/00/00 Joseph Clark (Maryland Architect) Architect The former governor's mansion, McDowell Hall, is completed with a third floor, roof and bell tower cupola and begins serving as the main building at St John's College.
