1297/00/00 A two-storey chapel is completed in the Palace of Westminster. The ground floor, or undercroft chapel, is to be used by the Royal Household and courtiers, while St Stephen's Chapel (lost), on the first floor is to be used by the Royal Family.
1446/10/22 William Lyndwoode, the Bishop of St David's dies and is buried at St Stephen's Lower chapel.
1834/00/00 The ground floor undercroft chapel is used as the Speaker's state dining room and wine cellar. Holes were bored into the wall to accommodate the kitchen chimneys.
1860/00/00 Edward M Barry Architect Restoration and decoration of St Mary Undercroft begins: The medieval stone lierne vaulting and carved bosses of the martyred saints are repaired, with new purbeck marble columns inserted below along the walls.
1862/00/00 During the restorations, William Lyndwoode remains are discovered embalmed in St Mary's north wall. They are removed and are reburied in the cloister of Westminster Abbey.
1865/00/00 Augustus Pugin Architect Decoration of the chapel is finished. The ceiling is richly decorated with gilded and painted decoration by Crace, the firm Clayton and Bell painted the line of saints on the east wall above the alter and the angelic choir in the vault at the east end.
1911/04/02 Suffragette Emily Davison hides in a cupboard overnight in the Chapel of St Mary in order to be entered on Census Night with her postal address as 'Crypt of Westminster Hall, Westminster'. English Women's Suffrage
2013/04/16 Margaret Thatcher In Memoriam The body of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher lays in state in St Mary Undercroft.
2017/04/08 Keith Palmer, a Police Constable who was fatally stabbed stopping a knife-wielding terrorist from entering the Palace of Westminster, lays in state in St Mary Undercroft.
