Hainburg an der Donau
- Vicinity: Eastern Austria
Hainburg an der Donau is a historic town in Lower Austria, set on the right bank of the Danube between Bratislava and Vienna. Its medieval core is anchored by the 13th century Wienertor, the largest surviving medieval gate in Europe, and by the Baroque SS Philip and James Catholic Church with its 1749 Marian column on the Hauptplatz. Nearby, the modern Protestant church by Coop Himmelb(l)au introduces a striking contemporary note, linking the town's long architectural lineage with the experimental forms of the present. - AsNotedIn
