A Paired Queen without a King

A Queenpost Truss is a timber or metal truss design distinguished by two vertical posts connected by a horizontal straining beam. This configuration allows for longer spans than a kingpost truss while maintaining structural simplicity. Diagonal braces run from the outer ends of the bottom chord up to the tops of the queenposts, distributing loads efficiently and creating a stable, lightweight framework. Developed for both buildings and bridges, the queenpost truss became a common solution in 19th?century American covered bridge construction. Its straightforward geometry made it economical to build, easy to repair, and adaptable to local timber sizes.
