Axil Johnson
- Also Known As: Axel Johnson
Swedish
Axil Johnson was a Swedish-American builder whose locally significant career unfolded in Fairhope, Alabama, during the early decades of the Single-Tax Colony. A committed Single Taxer who moved from the Midwest, Johnson brought practical skills as a plasterer and cement finisher, making him a valuable addition to the developing community. He partnered with English immigrant Marmaduke Dyson to form the design-build firm Dyson and Johnson, responsible for numerous Fairhope structures, including modest colony houses and civic buildings such as the Masonic Hall on South Section Street. During the First World War years Johnson worked independently and experimented with farming, though his most successful and enduring contributions came through his building work, which helped shape the architectural character of early Fairhope. - AsNotedIn
