Newman and Wing

  • American

Newman and Wing Quarry was a notable American stone extraction site established in 1878 by J B Newman and H W Wing. Located on Berryessa Road, approximately six miles northeast of Napa, California, at an elevation of 600 feet, the quarry produced a unique light yellowish-to-gray trachytic tuff. This volcanic stone was noted for a distinct flow structure that, from a distance, closely mimicked the appearance of bedded sandstone strata. Renowned for being harder and more compact than other tuffs in Napa County, it became a preferred material for durable construction. - AsNotedIn
