Wing Quarry

  • American

Wing Quarry was an American stone quarry located on Berryessa Road about six miles northeast of Napa. It opened in 1900 after the former Newman and Wing Quarry was divided between the two partners. The quarry produced a light yellowish to gray trachytic tuff characterized by a distinct flow structure that, from a distance, partially resembled bedded sandstone strata. The stone was considered harder, more compact, and of better quality than much of the tuff commonly used in Napa County for building construction and bridge work, making it a valued local source of durable construction material. - AsNotedIn
