William Pinkney Whyte was a notable Maryland Democratic statesman whose long public career included service as the 35th Governor of Maryland, three terms in the United States Senate, and a tenure as Mayor of Baltimore. Born in 1824 at 616 North Calvert Street in Baltimore, he rose through state and national politics as a skilled legislator and party leader. Whyte remained an influential figure in Maryland civic life until his death in 1908 at his home on East Chase Street, after which he was buried in Green Mount Cemetery, Baltimore. - AsNotedIn
