Blanche G Geary
American
Blanche G Geary was a notable 20th-century administrator and architect whose work helped shape the national expansion of the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA). A pioneer in social welfare and building management during the Progressive Era and World War I, she served as Economic Secretary of the YWCA War Work Council and as Head of the YWCA Building Bureau, directing the planning and construction of YWCA facilities across the United States. Geary championed safe, "home-like" residential environments for young self-supporting women, rejecting institutional dormitory models in favor of spaces that supported dignity, independence and community. During World War I, she guided the YWCA's response to the economic and housing pressures faced by women entering the wartime workforce, making her one of the organization's most consequential national leaders. - AsNotedIn
