Joseph Schlitz was a notable German-American entrepreneur best known as the namesake of the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company, once the largest beer producer in the United States. After immigrating to Milwaukee in 1850, he worked as a bookkeeper for August Krug's brewery. Following Krug's death in 1856, Schlitz took over management, eventually marrying Krug's widow, Anna Maria, and renaming the business after himself in 1858. - AsNotedIn
