George Rogers was born George Manuel Rodrigues, 23 April 1888, in Campanario, Madeira Islands. He left home in 1905 and traveled to New York via British Guiana. By 1908, he was working at Wellsley College and in 1911 he moved to Portland, eventually becoming a grocer and city council member in Lake Oswego. - AsNotedIn
